MAY KEY POINTS
CURRENT PRICES
- The trend estimate rose 0.4% in May 2012. This follows a rise of 0.4% in April 2012 and a rise of 0.4% in March 2012.
- The seasonally adjusted estimate rose 0.5% in May 2012. This follows a rise of 0.1% April 2012 and a rise of 0.9% in March 2012.
- In trend terms, Australian turnover rose 3.3% in May 2012 compared with May 2011.
- The following industries rose in trend terms in May 2012: Food retailing (0.4%), Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (1.0%), Other retailing (0.4%), Clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing (0.3%) and Department stores (0.3%). Household goods retailing (-0.1%) fell in trend terms in May 2012.
- The following states and territories rose in trend terms in May 2012: New South Wales (0.5%), Queensland (0.6%), Western Australia (0.7%), South Australia (0.2%), Victoria (0.1%), the Australian Capital Territory (0.5%) and the Northern Territory (0.4%). Tasmania (-0.2%) fell in trend terms in May 2012.

CHANGES IN THIS ISSUE
As happens each year, an annual seasonal reanalysis has been undertaken based on estimates up to and including April 2012. No significant changes have occurred in this reanalysis, resulting in only minor revisions to the seasonally adjusted estimates.
REVISIONS
Original estimates for Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services have been revised from January 2012 onwards as a result of updated information received from survey respondents.
Revisions to seasonally adjusted estimates are due to revisions to original estimates as well as the concurrent methodology for deriving seasonal factors.
